Maschio Angioino: or Castel Nuovo, one of the most evocative and fascinating points of Naples overlooks the Gulf of Naples. Located a few steps from the main places of the city: Palazzo Reale, Piazza del Plebiscito, Galleria Umberto I and the San Carlo Theatre is easily accessible. The Maschio Angioino, strategic fortress but above all grandiose royal residence in medieval ages and then in the Renaissance, today hosts foundations and museums.
Castel dell'Ovo: from an ancient legend that the Roman poet Virgil - that in the Middle Ages was also considered a magician - hid in the dungeons of the building an egg that kept standing the whole fortress. During the fourteenth century, in the time of Joan I, the castle suffered extensive damages due to the partial
collapse of the arch on which is resting and, to prevent it from spreading among the population panic about allegations future disasters that could hit the town, the queen had to swear that she had replaced the egg broken.
The Virgilian Park: The park is characterized by a system of terraces overlooking the Gulf of Naples, from which you can see as well as the great view of the gulf, the steep tuff rock walls of the promontory of Posillipo’s hill. The monumental entrance is on Viale Virgilio and leads to a square in which stands a newly built fountain.
In the park there are also two busts depicting Simón Bolívar and Mohandas Gandhi; and games for children. The amphitheatre hosts theatrical and musical performances of
various kinds. In addition, the "Virgilian" Sportive Centre, includes an athletic track and you could also enjoy the magnificent vegetation.
Porticciolo Riva Fiorita and la Gaiola: It is a small marine protected area sat in the Posillipo coastal landscape. The submerged Gaiola Park also has a significant biological importance: the extreme geomorphology complexity of
its depths and the continued vitalization of the water, guaranteed by the favorable circulation system of coastal waters, have allowed the settlement in a matter of several hectares of typical sea marine
communities of the Mediterranean. The gentle slopes down to the sea and the high Neapolitan yellow tuff cliffs, have always exercised a special fascination on people here succeded.
