Tour designed for all color that have at their disposal more days to devote to our beautiful land. Organized with the collaboration of the Hotel degli Dei, this tour was conceived for those who want to spend 2/3 unforgettable days along the Phlegrean coast. We will stay in the Hotel Gli Dei located on the highest point of the Solfatara Volcano in Pozzuoli, from where, at any point of its perimeter, we can remain enchanted by the view of the sea and of Vesuvius.
Day 1
Path: easy
Distance: about 42 Km.
Difference in altitude: about 124 mt.
Journey time: about 3 hours (excluding visits).
Journey time whit stops: about 6 hours (including visits).
Point of interest:
A relaxed riding around the three Flegrean lakes (Averno, Miseno, and Fusaro). We can also visit some archeological siters as:
Aragonese Castle of Baia: is located in Baia, Bacoli fraction, and in an area of considerable strategic importance, built on a promontory (51 m) to the east naturally defended by a high rocky precipice overlooking the sea, and west by deep depression given by the calderas of two volcanoes called "Fondi di Baia" (part of the Campi Flegrei); with the addition of walls moats and drawbridges, the castle proved virtually impregnable. Its position - from which dominates the entire Gulf of Pozzuoli up to Procida, Ischia and Cuma - allowed a very broad control of the area, preventing both the approach of enemy fleets, since any landings of troops who wanted to march on Naples a surprise action behind.
Mirabilis pool : In Miseno, on the northwest side of the Gulf of Naples, built in the Augustan period, there is the largest Roman cistern of drinking water ever built. Completely dug out of tufa has the capacity of 12,000 cubic meters of water, is 15 meters high, 72 long and 25 wide and is covered with a barrel vault supported by 48 massive piers, arranged in four rows, to form five long aisles .
The cistern was built to supply water to the Classis Misenensis's men, become Classis Praetoria Misenensis Pia Vindex, the most important Roman Empire fleet moored in the port of Miseno. It represented the final tank Augustan (Aqua Augusta) that, from the sources of Serino (AV), with a 100 km travel, carried water to Naples and Campi Flegrei. In the nave stands a limaria pool of 20 by 5 meters, 1.10 meters deep, which was used as tailings and waste tank for the cleaning and the emptying of the tank.
Casina Vanvitelliana: Starting from 1752 the area of Fusaro, sparsely populated at the time, became the hunting and fishing area for the Bourbons, who entrusted to Luigi Vanvitelli the first works for the transformation of the place. When Ferdinand IV ascended the throne, the interventions were completed by Carlo Vanvitelli, son of Luigi, who in 1782 created the Royal Hunting Lodge on the lake, in a short distance from the shore. This building, known as Casina Vanvitelliana, was used as the residence for distinguished guests, as Francesco II d'Asburgo-Lorena, who stayed here in May 1819. Inside the building were also greeted Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gioachino Rossini and more recently, the President of the Republic Luigi Einaudi.
Day 2
Path: Easy
Distance: about 48 Km.
Difference in altitude: about 132 mt.
Journey time: about 3 hours (visit non incluted).
Journey time whit stops: about 6 hours
Points of interest:
An amazing journey from Pozzuoli to Naples, ending in the historic centre of the city.
Basilica of Santa Chiara: The Basilica of Santa Chiara, or the monastery of Santa Chiara, is a monumental church building of Naples, among the most important and largest monastic complexes of the city. The basilica has its entrance on Via Benedetto Croce, rising on the northeastern side of Piazza del Gesù Nuovo, in front of the homonymous church and adjacent to that of the Poor Clares, once the latter part of the monastery of Santa Chiara. It is the largest Gothic church in the city, characterized by a monastery which includes four monumental cloisters, archaeological excavations in the surrounding area and several other rooms in which is housed the Museum of the same name which, in turn, includes also the visit to the nuns' choir, with remains of frescoes by Giotto, a large refectory, the sacristy and other basilicas environments.
San Severo Chapel: (Veiled Christ): The assignment to execute the veiled Christ was at first entrusted to the sculptor Antonio Corradini. However, died a shortly thereafter, he had time to realize only a terracotta sketch that today is at the National Museum of San Martino. The commission thus passed to Giuseppe San Martino, who was given the task of producing "a life-size statue of carved marble, representative of Our Lord Jesus Christ who died, covered by a transparent shroud made from the same block of the statue." San Martino then created a work where the Dead Christ, lying on a mattress is covered with a film that adheres to its forms. The mastery of the Neapolitan sculptor is in being able to convey the suffering that Christ experienced the moments before the Crucifixion through the composition of the veil, from which, there are signs on the face and body of the martyrdom suffered. At the foot of the sculpture, finally, the artist sculpts even of that torture instruments: the crown of thorns, pliers and nails.
Naples Underground: The term "Napoli sotterranea" stands for the dense and complex network of tunnels and caves, which are located in the Naples underground and that form a real city which follows, in negative, the city surface. The underground city extends underneath the historic center with theaters, sports, local centers, bars and casinos. To it are related myths and legends still alive in the collective imagination of the Neapolitans. The Naples galleries below were used, over the centuries, in different ways. Born after the extraction of tuff for the construction of the city, they were then put to the aqueduct and as a refuge in the time of World War II.
Day 3
Path: easy
Distance: about 20 Km.
Difference in altitude: about 132 mt.
Journey time: about 2 hours (visits not incluted).
Journey time whit stops: about 4 hours
Point of interest:
We'll spend the last day around the Hotel, where there are many points of interest, as the Volcano Solfatara, the Phlavian Amphitheatre, the Serapis temple, and archeological rests all around in Pozzuoli.
The Solfatara of Pozzuoli is one of forty volcanoes of Campi Flegrei and is located about three kilometers from the center of the city of Pozzuoli. It is an ancient volcanic crater still active but in quiescent state that for nearly two thousand years retains activity of sulfur dioxide fumaroles , boiling mud jets and high soil temperature: other similar activities are also found in other parts of the world and they are indicated with the name of solfataras precisely for the similarity with that Puteolan. The Solfatara is now a magma pressure outlet present under the Campi Flegrei, through which it can maintain a constant pressure of subterranean gases. The Solfatara, the name by which is indicated the crater rather than the entire volcanic edifice has an elliptical shape with a diameter of 770 and 500 meters, while the perimeter is 2 kilometers and 300 meters; the highest part of the crater belt is set at 199 meters and is called Mount Olibano while the bottom of the crater is placed at ninety meters above sea level.
The Flavian Amphitheatre is one of two existing Roman amphitheater in Pozzuoli and from the second half of the first century A.D. Some texts report it had been built under Vespasian and his inauguration probably under Tito. According to some scholars, the presence of masonry built with the technique of opus reticulatum, suggests to its realization under Nerone, then removed with a damnatio memoriae process.

Rione Terra Pozzuoli: to describe the Rione Terra of Pozzuoli inevitably you need to borrow an expression used by Alberto Angela in an episode of Discovery Channel: "There is a neighborhood where chapters in the long history of Pozzuoli overlapped like pages of a book, the Rione Terra ". No expression can be more exact than this. In fact in the whole area of Pozzuoli, the stronghold of the Rione Terra is the only place that was involved in all the historical developments. From the early Greek and Roman settlement to modern times.
